Birthed in fire and shadowed by the wings of dragons. This is the way the journey began.

Ragnar’k banked on a spread of black wing. Selene now faced away from the island. The wall of inky darkness still marred the western skies, hiding the sun. The shaft of black energies continued to feed the foul construct. At first, Selene failed to see what had alarmed the dragon, but Ragnar’k had keener eye. As the dragon passed over the read of the Dre’rendi fleet, Selene finally spotted strange aberrations in the wall of darkness. Her mind could not fully grasp what it was witnessing. It was as if huge white clouds billowed through the barrier, piercing the magickal wall.

Was this a storm front approaching? Selene sensed that it wasn’t.

Ships, Ragnar’k sent. Many, many ships.

Crinkling her brow at the dragon’s words, Selene could not understand the surge of excitement she received from Ragnar’k. What ships?

Then the strangest thing happened. Her vision shifted to that of the dragon’s. Suddenly, she felt leagues closer to the coming storm. The wall of darkness swelled in her vision. What she had thought were clouds were actually billowing sails. She shook her head. How could this be? These ships sailed the air! Still, there could be no mistaking the timbered and masted boats under the huge sails. Through the dragon’s vision, she even spotted small figures manning the decks of the strange flying ships.

She urged Ragnar’k to slow, the ships had rent holes in the wall of darkness. Selene’s gaze followed the shafts of sunlight to where they fell among the ships of the Bloodriders. She knew any skal’tum caught in the blaze of the setting sun would be vulnerable to attack. In this thin air, Ragnar’k fought to maintain a matching position. At the prow of the flagship stood not a man, but a woman. She wore a long, flowing gown, its fabric so thin that Selene could see her lithe form as easily as if she were naked. Her silver hair shone with brilliance that had nothing to do with any ray of sunlight. The woman turned to her. As her gaze met Selene’s across the wide distance, Selene sensed the energy that flowed from this woman: she was lightning given form.

The woman’s lips moved, and Selene heard the words as clearly as if the woman had been sitting beside her. “Go. This is no longer you battle.” Then the Elv’in woman turned away. “Wait!” Selene called, but the woman ignored her except to raise an arm in the dragon’s direction. Suddenly the skies were a whirlwind around them. Her mount fought to remain beside the ship, but his wings seemed incapable of catching wind. They fell in a spiraling plummet away from the flagship. Selene clung like a starfish as Ragnar’k tumbled. She was sure they would crash into the island.

Selene was wrenched away from the dream with a start, bolting upright and looking around their surrounding cave wide eyed and partially confused. Her hand sought of the warm scale of Ragnar’k, as it often did upon waking. Calm swept over her as the tips of her searching fingers fount the dragon’s wing, and one word from the dream still plagued her; “Dre’rendi…” It felt right upon her tongue rolling with a natural smoothness of long forgotten.

Behind her, Ragnar’k's eye swiveled open and for seconds untold her remained staring at his bonded before finally allowing her to know he had awoke; her nudged her arm. Hungry. Selene chuckled and looked over her shoulder, drawing her fingers up Ragnar’s wing. There was a wildness in him that could never be tamed, touched, nor drawn near to – not even by her. “Fishing then?” Gingerly the lithe girl rose to her feet and stretched, wriggling her bare toes into the sand. Just outside the cave she could hear the water washing upon shore, dragging at the sand with writhing liquid fingers.

Rising, she mounted Ragnar’s back, the beast lumbering forward and out of the cave, he scuffled over the pebbled beack, his claws dug deep, and he slid smoothly into the water. She slipped her feet into the folds by his forelimbs; once in place, he tightened his folds snugly, holding her firm against his back. She slipped the dragon’s breathing siphon from between the blades of his shoulders to her lips. She patted Ragnar’k three times on the neck, indicating she was ready and Ragnar’k dove. Her inner lids blinked up as she leaned close to his neck. She watched Ragnar’k stretch to his full length and marveled at his size.  His black wings were rippling shadows to either side.

Selene felt an echoing gnaw in her own belly and found herself drifting into the dragon’s senses; experiencing the rush of water over scale, the varied scents mixed in the sea: squid ink, spoor of a school of yellowfin, even the tang of poison from a nest of sea snakes. She heard the echoes of distant whales in the water and, closer still, the noise chatter of porpoises. She also sensed the strength in his body, his wings, to move with such grace and power. She gloried in the new sensations, not accustomed to the sudden changes even after 200 years. A new scent was shared with her, it smelled like the finest rare perfume she’d ever smelled. What was it?

Ragnar’k answered her: Shark’s blood.

She cringed lower to the dragon’s back. Suddenly, Ragnar’k darted to the left. Selene, sharing his mind, knew his move in advance and compensated by shifting her weight. He spun suddenly over a ribbed reef line and, snaking his neck down, jabbed his muzzle into the black shadows. He snapped his head back, a young male rockshark trapped in his fanged jaws. In a flurry of razored teeth, the shark was shredded into pieces that could be swallowed. Ragnar’k skimmed the area, collecting every morsel. Selene did not urge him otherwise. She savored the kill, the taste of blood in her throat, the satisfaction of a full belly. But mostly, she enjoyed how she and the dragon were united: one heart, one mind, one will.

Suddenly, the pair erupted from the water and the dragon lunged into the sky. A tower of sinuous dragon displayed against the sun. With an explosive beat of its wings, the black dragon swung in the air. It twisted and banked, revealing the girl on its back. With another beat, it sailed into the air. From its glossy scales, sparks of brilliance outlined it flight. Its jaws were open, and a huge roar flowed from his throat. It was not a cry of challenge, but of joy.

It headed west toward the coast.

When they reached the far shores, Ragnar’k dove down and banked with a soft rustle of wings, his legs bending to allow for Selene to dismount. She pulled the siphon from her mouth and blinked back her inner lids, sliding off the dragon’s scales and hopping onto the beach. Her clothes were wet through and through, the pale scales glittering beneath the sunlight. After a brief look and affirmation from Ragnar’k that there was no one currently on the beach, Selene pulled off the hooded dress she wore and laid it out against Ragnar’k haunches as the dragon stretched out and clawed at the earth. They would dry off and hunt for something for the Bloodrider to eat prior to perhaps moving onto another location or spending some time on this cluster of the world. They’d bask in the sun, Selene’s eyes drifting towards the clouds, thinking back on the remnants of her dream.

Golden sand gave way beneath the feet of the goddess as she moved across the beach. Dark shades covering even darker eyes as iridescent obsidian hair twisted in the salty breeze. It had been a beautiful day by any and all accounts. The water was a perfect temperature to cool off when the rays of the sun grew far to intense for the every day beach goer. The woman walked with a purpose away from the water which droplets were clinging to her every curve, not wishing to relinquish their grasp on her sun kissed skin. A suit clung to her like a second skin; concealing most of her chest, torso, and further feminine regions while her shapely back was primarily exposed to the elements and view.

Each step brought her further away from the more inhabited part of the beach towards someplace more remote. The energy around her beckoning her forth to a new area. Something had disturbed the lands and at this moment the one to find out would be the female. Once she was far from public eye a darkness cast itself over her form to hide her from mortal eyes. It was the immortal she hoped to draw out from hiding as they would be the key to her final plan, or perhaps just an ally for future plans.

The sea breeze shifted for a briefest moments for her to catch the scent of what was unusual for such area. Fire and brimstone. Now the one she knew to carry such scent had not arrived yet to this land so it could only mean one thing. It was someone new..

A spark of excitement made her hear stammer and send a shiver down her spine. The woman may not have known who or what she was about to 'stumble' upon but she had a fair idea of what she might find. It was not too long until she made it close enough to see two figured basking in the rays of the sun. Unbeknownst that they were being watched from afar. The element of surprise was on her side and she planned to use it to her advantage. With a subtle flick of the wrist, the woman in black dissipated from where she stood, only to reappear a few yards away from the strangers. Sitting on a rock that had been heated no thanks to the blazing sun over head.

"Sitting out in broad day light with such a companion in these parts is not a wise idea.."

A smooth voice came from silken lips as she lifted her sunglasses from her face to truly inspect the pair. Dark eyes taking in the dragon first. He was an interesting specimen. From his snout all the way down to his tail were the thick armor like scales to protect his body against a would be attack. Large wings to aid his flight followed by the boney horns along the back of his skull that she could only imagine helped him in battle and in potentially finding a mate.

It was with that thought that her eyes befell the woman. She and Eclipse were around the same height give or take, age was an unknown question and not one that she had any intention in finding out as it was useless information. Age meant nothing to her as many who were old in years held the mentality of someone less than half her age.

With mild interest she kept a close eye on both. She had given them plenty of space to defend themselves but not so far where things, such as a subtle change in mood and body language could be mistaken.

Birthed in fire and shadowed by the wings of dragons. This is the way the journey began.

There was a shift in the wind and Ragnar’k’s eye opened to a sliver. It comes.

His voice was soft and velvet touching against Selene’s mind, the only being in existence who could hear the dragon’s voice and the power rumbling behind it. If they made a false move now it could be mistaken as a sign of fear towards whoever it was that approached. Instead, the pair continued to lie upon the golden sand, absorbing the heat from it to become familiar with the veils of magic that gathered thinly around the current lands. They had been following the currents of magic, sensing when they waxed and waned, adjusting their course in order to find the entrance to A’loa Glen once more and return to the age old fight they had been taken from.

In a blink the presence disappeared and Selene’s heart jumped up her throat, Ragnar’k lifted his massive head, finally giving indication that they had sensed something coming near and the smaller woman rolled on her side, snatching up the hooded dress she usually wore and yanking it on over her head before her features could be exposed. Unfortunately the movement was not fast enough and Selene was certain that the creature or person which had approached had gotten a glimpse of the golden locks but not her facial features or eyes.

“Ragnar’k, rev’oc em!” she commanded, the black dragon’s movements already set as he shifted and came between the woman upon her perch and the Bloodrider who was adjusting the dress along her petite, but curvaceous body. Selene knew that the scales beneath her skin still glowed a silvery hue beneath the sun’s gold rays and that from afar, if she were not covered, her torso would be like a glittering diamond; attracting unwanted attention.

When the intruder spoke, Selene tilted her head up and moved around the flank of Ragnar’k, whose tail-tip coiled about her sleeved wrist. The hood managed to conceal Selene’s face, casting a shadow from which two glowing eyes of fire and brimstone peered out. “I would say that neither is sneaking upon such a pair if you have no ill-intent.”

Ragnar’k: Dark little creature. I will kill it and it will not lurk.

On ouy l’iw ebe urt. Both replies were sent through their bond, a soothing hand stroking his flank as he stared upon the woman hovering above them on her stone perch. “You must have a strong bond with magick to find us with such ease.” The rise and fall of Ragnar’k’s chest and the calm rhythm of his heart set Selene at ease. He was not an untouchable foe, but many mistook the giant beast for a mere dragon. Once upon a dream she had seen in the dragon’s memories a time when she had been away, searching for the… something, that another had come but by the time she had arrived, they had been long gone. It was then that the Skul’tum, those wretched beasts of darkness had come for Ragnar’k. This woman, she smelled of something akin to the foul beasts and reminded her of Vira’ni.

"What do you call this cluster of isles? It is not a place we have seen before."

The woman ran her fingers along the rock beneath her idly as she watched the duo. Their bond was strong, she could see that as easily as she could see everything else around her. Truth be told, she was undecided what intent she had here other than curiosity. They were not of this land and therefore befell upon a certain element of unknown. Eclipse was a know all type of woman, friend or foe. It had been a principle to her that if you did not at least have a connection with someone then you could neither respect them or they you, along with any number of things.

"Would your reaction have been any different if I had casually walked up to you?"

Her head tilted to the right side as she inquired; the heavy mass of iridescent hair falling around her shoulder. Dark orbs continuing to take in each of them carefully, cautiously. Eclipse thought momentarily of her next actions. She harbored to physical weapons on her form, obvious by her so little clothing that she wore. Her powers lay dormant for now despite the energy that hummed around her. The two before her had auras which pulsated in untapped energy. There was much potential here.

"According to the locals, this is call 'Venicha Beach'. While I may have a bond with magic, as you put it, there are many here who do not and they will see your friend as a danger to their lives. Should you decided to head towards more occupied areas it would be wise to either keep your friend hidden or whatever means you can to keep him, or her, safe.."

The harpy spoke her words as kind as she could. While she wished not to offend the woman, or her companion, before her, she also wanted to give them at least one piece of advice should she not know otherwise since she is foreign to this area. Bringing her right hand up, she brushed the tendrils of hair away from her face and back so not to have her view of the two, or should someone else appear, obstructed. Other than those movements and the air moving in and out of her chest, she did not move. There was little need to as the sun warmed her body from the outside in. The conversation would dictate whether or not she would remain here and keep the girl company, along with her dragon, or move along to find something better.

"What do you call yourselves?"

Another question, polite but direct. Eclipse was never one to beat around the bush and had learned in her time not to take things to heart. This was one of those moments that would either stick with her or not. It was also not her first time dealing with creatures with an affinity towards, well, for ancient beasts.

Birthed in fire and shadowed by the wings of dragons. This is the way the journey began.

Selene considered the words carefully before giving an honest response. Honesty had become more of a habit than a moral compass, “yes, simply because we would have seen you coming.” Along with the revelation that they would not have acted hostile or seemed wary, Selene reached up and pulled the hood off her head allowing the golden locks to tumble down her shoulders. Despite this, her eyes were now closed, cutting off the vibrancy of their color from being seen. Soft scales were marked by the small cracks between the armor in the shape of blue veins that could only be spotted at the correct angle. Considering she had seen the face of the enemy it would only seem natural to allow her own features be known.

Thick black lashes marked her doe shaped eyes against her pale skin, the platinum blond made her seem more apparition than actual creation and Ragnar’k’s dark colors only made her seem that much more ethereal, as if the softest breeze could send her shape wafting away, carried in the currents of the wind to never be seen again. They were aerial creatures and as such could navigate those currents expertly, but where Ragnar’k had sturdy wings to carry his great mass; Selene lacked the proper appendages to truly be airborne.

“Trev’r Ragnar’k.” The command was verbal this time, heeding the warning of the creature perched above them. Soon her fingers touched nothing more than air where Ragnar’k’s flank had once been. The black dragon began to shrink in size, his ability to shift into a younger version of himself but still retain all magical potency was something that very few had had the chance to witness. The spider, Vira’ni had been among the few and she had perished, consumed by the spiders she had birthed. With his tail still coiled around her wrist, Ragnar’k’s scales took on the same color as Selene’s and his wings flapped to bring him upright, his claws pressing against her skin before they helped him climb along her arm. His tail wrapped about the thickness of her neck and he settled, perched upon her shoulder with his fire-eyes staring ahead and towards Eclipse – the unknown woman.

“I am Selene and this is Ragnar’k of A’loa Glen. Is there something we should call you?” Not wanting to offend, and being capable of seeing without opening her eyes, Selene took note of the posture the other contained within her self-restricting bubble. Something in the stance, predatory and waiting reminded her of the ways Ragnar’k would skulk and stalk until he was ready to pounce. Usually the endeavors proved to be only the young-in playing a game; but at others she knew that there was the intent to kill. A splash caught Selene’s attention and she turned towards the water, momentarily exposing her back and the open space around the puckered scar at her back. The edges appeared raw and irritated but there was no obvious sign of trauma, nor did her movements mirror any kind of pain rippling through with the motion. At the same time, the cross shaped scar looked completely healed.

Realizing the exposure, Ragnar’k crawled and suspended himself from her back, splayed over it with his body as the shield and his claws digging into Selene’s sides with wings outstretched.

A smile pulled at her lips as the woman and her friend took notice of her warning rather than ignore it. It gave her the knowledge that the woman was no fool and took warnings as they were. Many foreigners would take note but find out for themselves and these two were special, it was obvious. The humans here would not be too keen to welcome either of them into their warm embrace. The thought made a chill run down her spine as her mind ran through what they would do to the two. Kill them the way a witch might be hunted in olden times. No pitch forks this time around, baseball bats, machetes, guns, the list was endless. The dragon, they would use him for science unless someone who delved into the black arts were to get a hold of him. They would pick pieces of him apart before killing him to use what lay within his chest. Neither were a death she would wish on them, even though she had only just met them.

When the names were given, Eclipse lowered her head in a slight bow in greeting. It was her way of showing respect to each, but especially the ancient creature who now resided on Selene's shoulder. When the splash caught the three off guard, her eyes turned to look towards the water. It was nothing that she could see but the waves breaking upon the shore might have been hiding something dangerous beneath their white caps. Upon determining that it was nothing, she returned her gaze to Selene and Ragnar’k, only catching the barest glimpse of a scar before the dragon covered the pale skin and Selene turned back to her.

"I am Eclipse, it is a pleasure to meet the both of you. Next time I will give more warning to the two of you that I am approaching so that you can prepare and make yourselves decent. I know it was wrong, but I felt had I not you two might have vanished and I would not have been able to meet you."

In her eyes, it was clear Ragnar’k did not trust her, but who could blame him? She was like a rose, beautiful but along her there were thorns ready to strike out and cut the hand that came to close.

"If you would like, I am rending a small beach house not to far from here. It is much more private, and the dunes offer protection from unwanted eyes but with beach access. You are welcome to join me there, unless you have other things to attend to."

Scooting up, she rose to a squat on the rock before one small leap to the ground. Her feet planted in the headed granules of sand, knees bending so not to send a jolt along her body. Dusting her buttocks of any sand or dirt that may have clung there in the process. Dark eyes lifting from looking towards her landing spot back to the two, waiting for an answer. Brushing whatever debris clung to her hands in the mean time.
