Unchained

The city hadn't changed much in the time that Maylin had been away. The population had grown and shops that she had once known had been replaced and changed hands. She had always enjoyed the thrill of finding something new, discovering something she didn't know before.

But as she walked down the crowded streets she could appreciate the familiar sense of home. It was nice to know where she was going for once. Stepping out of the boutique with a paper bag, she had brought some clothes as she couldn't continue to wear her father's clothes every time she chose to walk on two legs.

Today her black hair had been pleated to the side and she burrowed her nose into the large cream woolen jumper she had recently brought. She always felt so cold out of her fur but today's trip was out of necessity. She generally disliked crowded places as she had to focus so much harder on containing her abilities. Feeling too many people's emotions at once would overwhelm her.

She passed the bus stop and moved to avoid the crowd coming off of the bus. Maylin tried to navigate her way through the mob but that was proving difficult on the narrow street. How Malin longed for the open fields in that moment.

A teenager on a bike suddenly sideswiped her and her bag was thrown from her hand. " Hey! " she shouted looking around at her tossed clothes. " How rude. " she muttered to herself as she began the tedious chore of trying to gather her belongings.

Maylin ha gathered her clothes quickly especially as a couple of kindly people offered to help her. She double checked that she hadn't missed anything and a man handed her a sweater. " Thank you. " she said to the gentleman who had helped her. Looking through the bag she realised she was missing a scarf she had gotten and she went in search for it.

She turned around to see if it had blown in the other direction when she saw the irresponsible biker being knocked from his bike by a fierce looking woman. Like most people in the crowd they gasped as they watched him take a tumble but Maylin's attention was drawn to the female.

Maylin watched as she walked away from the bus stop and Maylin, walking against the crowd, tried to follow her. She was a wolf, her scent was thick with not only her own but many wolves scents and old blood. But under the scents was a distinctive one that Maylin could of swore she knew.

She followed behind trying to be discreet but she was trying to get a good view of her face. Maylin increaed her pace and finally caught a glimpse of the yellow hues Maylin hadn't seen in many years. " Mikayla? " she muttered in disbelief. There was no way, Maylin had searched high and low for her and once again she had found a missing family member in her own back yard.

Her heart beat faster and her pace quickened as she she grew more and more hopefully it was in fact her missing sister. " Mikayla! " she shouted as she ran toward her now. She threw her arms around her neck and squeezed in pure delight. " It's you isn't it.... you're alive. " she said almost crying with joy as she hopped on the spot, the shopping bags now fallen to the ground.

" How are you here? Did you know we were here? I looked everywhere but I knew you were alive. I knew you were ok! Dad is going to be so happy.. we can finally be a family again. " in her excitement Maylin could hardly control herself. Words were flowing out of her mouth before she even gave Mikayla a chance to process them but she couldn't help it. She was firmly latched onto her sister and she never wanted to let her go again.

Hearing her sister say her name was one of the best things she had ever heard. She had always hoped she would hear it but with the recent revelations she didn't know whether that dream would come true or not.

Images of their future together flashed in her mind. Christmas's, finally being able to celebrate their birthday together rather then apart. Finally getting to have the sister she always wanted. Her Mum and Dad could now look past their anger toward each other and look toward the future.

But her joy was short lived as her sister essentially forced her to be quiet. Maylin's smile turned to that of a rejected frown. The tears in her eyes no longer there because of joy. " Oh em ok.. " she muttered not sure what she had done wrong to deserve such treatment from her sister whom she had embraced so lovingly.

Her question was unexpected but Maylin tried to remember that neither of her siblings was as lucky as herin terms of those who raised them. " My family? Mikayla, it's.. it's our family. Me.. Cayden.. Dad oh and Mum. They're all here. We've been looking for you. " she said calmer then before. Maybe she had overwhelmed her, she knew she could intense at times.

She found herself curious about her sister felt about the whole thing and allowed herself to focus on sister's emotions and she audibly gasped. " Oh Mikayla... " she muttered not wanting to  believe that the emotions she was picking up on were her sisters.

Pain, anger, abandonment. It was one of the worst things she had ever felt and she had to force herself not to cry. " What happened to you? " she asked going to hug here again but stopping herself after the way her sister had reacted the first time. Her heart was breaking for her sister who had clearly not had the upbringing she had hoped for her. All she wanted to do was embrace her sister and make her feel better but even Maylin doubted her ability to fix this pain.

Mikayla was able to suss out quickly that she was picking up on her emotions and it only made the situation worse. Mikayla felt violated like most people did when they realised what she could do and a lot of the time she couldn't help it.

She snapped at her again making Maylin feel so small. This was not the reunion she imagined. This was not the sister she remembered nor wanted. But her anger or her attitude didn't change the fact that she was her sister and Maylin loved her despite all that.

" Please Mikayla, I'm sorry. " she said following her sister. She had to be careful what she said as she was in public but she wanted to explain all the same. " I can't help it sometimes, I just .. I wanted to make sure you were ok. I won't do it again.. I promise. " she said hoping that it would be enough to calm her sister's rage.

" Please don't run away Mikayla. " Maylin was not beneath begging when it came to her family. All she had ever wanted was her family back together again no matter who they were. " I searched for you for a long time, you and Mum and Cayden. " she said as she remembered the hours she spent alone scouring foreign lands for her family.

" Don't you.. don't you want to meet everyone. Just once? " she asked hoping to somehow coax her back home with her. " Why don't you come back me? We can get you cleaned up.. " she hadn't failed to notice the smell of blood from her and she could understand why her sister was getting strange looks.

" You can meet everyone and then if you still want to leave I won't stop you. Otherwise I am just going to have to follow you until you agree.. " she was hoping her sister would agree to more reasonable terms. She was having to accept that her sister may not be a permanent part of her life but if she could just have one day of her family all together, her life would be complete.

Her sister kept walking but Maylin was adament that she was going to try and help her sister. It was clear that her sister had known no kindness in her life. But Maylin wanted to change that, she had enough love and kindness that she was certain she could help fix whatever was broken inside of her sister.

Mikayla's shouting caused Maylin to stop in her tracks. She gasped a little. She wasn't used to being talked to this way. It was a rather startling contrast, generally people were kind and friendly toward her. So to see her sister treat her this way when strangers treated more compassionately broke her heart. But she tried not to take it personally. She was a stranger to Mikayla and it would take time for Mikayla to trust her.

Mikayla stepped toward her and Maylin could easily pick up on her frustration and she wondered if her sister was about to hurt her physically as well as emotionally. Instead, she instructed her to lead the way. Her emerald eyes lit up with joy once again at the statement. " Really Mikayla? " she said beaming. " Ok ok. " she said resisting throwing her arms around her.

Maylin gathered the bags she had dropped and walked down the street beside her sister. Even the thought seemed surreal and yet here she was side by side with her. Maylin wanted to tell her everything. Maylin wanted to tell her about Cayden and his girlfriend, how they could meet her together. About their dad and their Mother's sudden return but she held her tongue. She had already overwhelmed her once.

" I'm really glad we found each other Mikayla. " she smiled glancing over and hoping that her sister knew she was sincere. Mikayla might of been angry and untrusting but Maylin wanted nothing more than to gain her trust and eventual love.

As they walked side by side Mikayla seemed to soften a little towards her. Despite wanting them to be best friends from the beginning Maylin was patient and was willing to wait for however long it took for them to become as close as she had always hoped.

Maylin followed her sister's eyes as she glanced over at her bag and Maylin suddenly felt guilty for having not offered her something sooner. " Oh of course, here take whatever you like. " she said handing her over the whole bag. She looked like she could use them more then she could.

Mayling thought about where she could change and noticed a cafe near by. Maybe she was hungry or thirsty too. She didn't even know if her sister had any money to have eaten on her bus trip. " How about we go in there and you can change in the bathrooms. I can get us a coffee or tea.. I don't know how you to take your tea. " she said with some sadness. A sister should know how her sister liked her tea.

" Are you hungry? You must be hungry from your trip. " she said as the smell of the bakery began to fill her nostrils. " I mean it must of been a long trip right? " she asked wondering where her sister had come from. Mikayla may not of believed it but she had spent so much time looking for her and she was curious to know whether she simply hadn't looked in the right place or whether she had failed her and missed her.
